Artificial Flowers and Plants

Shop artificial flowers and plants from Mikolia, covering the full range from a 37cm rose stem to a 190cm faux tree: real touch flowers, ready-made bouquets and arrangements, and large artificial trees for floors and corners.

The range splits into two collections. Artificial flowers covers cut stems, bunches and finished arrangements. Artificial plants covers potted trees and large indoor greenery. If you already know which you need, go straight there. If not, the difference is worth two minutes of thought, because it decides everything that follows.

Flowers or plants: which one you actually need

The distinction is practical rather than botanical. Artificial flowers are cut stems that need a vessel, which means you control the height, the density and the shape, and can change any of it whenever you like. Artificial plants arrive potted and complete, so they need a planter but no arranging, and they stay as they are.

Flowers are for surfaces: dining tables, consoles, sideboards, mantelpieces, desks. Plants are for floors: corners, hallways, the space beside a sofa or under a stairwell. If you are dressing a table, you want flowers. If you are filling an empty corner, you want a plant. And if you want floor height but prefer the look of cut stems, long branches in a tall floor vase do the job of both, which is the option most people overlook.

Realistic faux flowers, sold as individual stems

Almost every flower in the range is sold one stem at a time rather than as a fixed bouquet, and this is the most useful thing about the collection. A ready-made bouquet imposes someone else's proportions on your room. Buying separately lets you build ready-made bouquets to your own scale, mix colours to suit your walls, and add to a display later rather than replacing it.

Short stems from 37cm to 51cm are for massing in a small vase. Mid-height stems from 68cm to 96cm suit a table or console. Long stems from 100cm upwards, including artificial long stem roses at 113cm, are floor pieces. Every stem is wire cored, so anything can be shortened with florist snips, which makes buying slightly too long the safer error.

Real touch artificial stems run through the range, with a coated finish that gives slightly under a finger rather than feeling like plain fabric. The orchid blooms are moulded in three dimensions rather than cut flat, so each carries a proper lip and throat. Details at that level are the difference between premium artificial flower arrangements and the ones that only work from a distance.

What the flowers collection covers

Roses appear in four forms, from 37cm blooms for tight posies up to 113cm sprays carrying four flowers and a bud. Orchids come as 93cm and 44cm Phalaenopsis stems and as finished arrangements in ceramic bowls. Tulips are sold in bunches of three because they look wrong alone. Hydrangeas, peonies, camellia, delphinium, clematis, cherry blossom and magnolia fill out the flowering side, with seeded and silver dollar eucalyptus for anyone who wants structure rather than colour. What the plants collection covers

The plants run from 95cm to 190cm and are all floor-standing. Around 150cm to 165cm is the safe choice for a standard room, which is where the 154cm cymbidium orchid and 165cm bird of paradise sit. At 180cm, the white magnolia and light pink cherry blossom become genuine focal points rather than background greenery. The 175cm lemon tree and 190cm pomegranate are the largest and need a clear corner and a decent ceiling.

The magnolia is the most architectural of them, since the bare branch between the blooms gives it a drawn silhouette against a plain wall. The cherry blossom is the softest, with blossom dense enough to read as a tree in full flower. The lemon and pomegranate trees bring fruit colour, which makes them the better fit for kitchens and rooms with wood or terracotta tones. See the full artificial plants collection.

Vases and planters

Nothing in the flowers collection includes a vessel, and every plant arrives in a plain nursery pot. Both are deliberate: it keeps the price on the thing you are actually buying and lets you match the vessel to your room.

For cut stems, sculptural forms from our 3D printed vases suit white and cream flowers, where the texture carries the interest. Ginger jars hold a full bouquet together rather than letting it splay. Ceramic and floral vases are the everyday table choice, and handbag vases work as a small accent beside a larger display. The full range is in vases.

For plants and long branches, see floor vases and planters. Our metal planters pair particularly well with the taller trees, including the engraved gold plant pot in 24cm, the hammered gold pot in 21cm or 24cm, and the engraved gold vase in 21cm. Our guide to styling planters and floor vases covers proportions in more detail.

Room by room

In a living room, use a tall tree for the corner and a low arrangement on the coffee table. Two displays at the same height in one room cancel each other out.

In a dining room, the centrepiece needs to be low enough to talk over, and any height should sit to one side of the room instead.

A bedroom takes softer flowers and gentler colour better than architectural branches. In a hallway, a narrow faux tree gives an entrance greenery in the one spot where light usually kills the real thing.

For workplaces, artificial flowers and plants hold up across weekends and holidays, drop nothing and need no watering rota. A single orchid stem suits a desk; a large faux tree suits reception. Our office decor styling guide covers both.

Finish the scheme with wall art behind a floor display, or something from our accessories on the surface alongside.

Weddings and gifting

For wedding decorations, faux stems can be arranged weeks ahead, survive a long warm day, cost the same in any season and get kept afterwards. Buying individually makes twelve matching table centres straightforward in a way that fresh flowers rarely are.

Both flowers and trees make good wedding and housewarming gifts for the same underlying reason: they last, and they ask nothing of the person receiving them beyond a surface or a spare corner.
